A guide for parents

Use your phone to explore nature together

Sit beside your child, choose one scene and let them pick something to investigate. Listen together, ask about what they notice, then put the phone down and look for a detail in the world around you.

Share the view, follow their curiosity

Keep the phone where you can both see it. You don't need to know every answer to help your child look more closely.

  1. Let your child choose

    Open one map and let your child move around the scene. Ask what caught their eye before suggesting an animal or a plant yourself.

  2. Listen before the next tap

    Tap their choice and hear its name and a short description. Leave a pause for your child to comment or ask something.

  3. Stay with one discovery

    Open the detail page if they want to know more. Listen together and talk about one thing that surprised you. There's no need to finish the map.

Choose English, Vietnamese or both

Start with the language your child wants to hear. To use all three modes, set the app language and learning language to different languages in Settings. On the map or detail page, tap the language control to cycle through EN, VI and VI+EN.

  • English

    Hear names and discovery content in English. Let your child listen again if they want to; repeating every word isn't part of the task.

  • Vietnamese

    Hear names and discovery content in Vietnamese. Use it when your child wants to discuss an idea in Vietnamese or check something they heard in English.

  • Both

    When you tap something on the map or listen on its detail page, names and sentences play in both languages, one after the other. Find-it questions use one language; switch to the other if your child needs it.

Ask what helped them find it

In Nature Reach, Easy asks your child to find something by name. Hard uses a clue, and Super offers up to three clues. Try a question below, then give your child time to look. You can replay a clue or skip a question together.

Try asking

  • What detail will you look for first?
  • Which part of the clue matches the animal you're looking at?
  • What made you choose this one?
  • Shall we hear the clue again and check?

Take one question beyond the screen

You don't need to find the same animals as the map. Carry one way of looking into your garden, a nearby park or the view from a window.

  1. Choose something nearby

    Put the phone away and pick a leaf, a tree or a bird you can see. Let your child decide which detail to investigate.

  2. Describe before naming

    Ask what they notice about its shape, colour or movement. If you don't know its name, describe it together and keep the question for later.

  3. Compare one visible detail

    Think back to the map. Does this leaf have a similar shape? Is the bird moving differently? Compare what you can see without assuming it is the same species.

Try a 10-minute exploration

Have one map ready before you begin. This sample includes looking, listening, a short search and time away from the phone.

  1. 0 to 1 min

    Choose a scene

    Sit side by side, choose the listening language and let your child look around one map.

  2. 1 to 3 min

    Meet one animal or plant

    Let your child choose and tap. Hear the name and description, then open its detail page if they want to know more.

  3. 3 to 5 min

    Try a short search

    Open Find it with the question-mark button. Start with Easy or try a clue in Hard. Ask what helped your child choose, then leave the search when this step ends.

  4. 5 to 7 min

    Revisit a discovery

    Open the Notebook and choose something your child has discovered. Listen again, or tap a labelled connection to hear how it relates to something else.

  5. 7 to 10 min

    Look away from the phone

    Put the phone down. Look at a plant or animal nearby or through a window, describe one detail together and choose a question to explore another day.

Explore a place together

Savanna

Look across the grassland for grazing zebras, tall trees and animals by the water. In Nature Reach, your child can tap animals to hear their names and explore the savanna at four times of day.

Pond

A pond has more to explore than the water you see on top. In Nature Reach, your child can search the picture for animals in the shallows, on the surface and along the bank.

Rainforest

Look up into the branches, then follow the scene down to the forest floor and stream. In Nature Reach, your child can tap an animal to hear its name and a short introduction in English, Vietnamese or both.
